THE ARTIST

A serendipitous meeting at the “Art in the Park” 3 years ago led me to join the Saturday Watercolor class  of Roland Santos.   I had been dabbling in art since my teenage years, evolving to more complicated forms but I never really thought of them as art.  They were more like distractions – hence the name of my doodles.  I felt I was ready to move on to serious stuff and then I met Roland, a water color, pastel and acrylic artist who has published books and sold numerous paintings.

It started  as an experiment - would  I enjoy it?  Would I stick to it?  Can I do it?  A combination of things made it possible – a patient and generous teacher in Roland, perseverance, an encouraging family,    and simple sticktoitiveness.

Most of my creations would not have seen anything beyond the doors of my bedroom but I was blessed with a very supportive family, my biggest fans.  My dear husband, Joey built me a studio (a studio!!!! Imagine the pressure to create!?!!) my son Anton, would constantly show my work off to his friends even dragging them to my studio, and my daughter Sella, decided to put me in the public eye by creating this page, putting together a portfolio and yes, even business cards!

There is one word that explodes in my mind like a bright neon sign  when I think of anyone besides my family and close friends seeing my work ---- Vulnerable.    That’s what I feel.  I have a long road yet to travel to be really good in this craft but the joy of creation and now the nervous glee that comes with sharing my creations --- well, I think they may be worth the vulnerability.

I hope you enjoy the paintings as much as I enjoyed creating them.  People often say Carpe Diem!  I say, Carpe Numine!
